THE PROJECT

A 225 kW community wind turbine near Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, UK, has been operating since 2015. Holmfirth Transition Town (HoTT) agreed a partnership with Longley Farm (J&E Dickinson Ltd), to replace the existing smaller wind turbine at Longley, Hade Edge, Holmfirth. The new 225k kW wind turbine was installed in 2014 and is now in its fourth year of operation under the ownership of the community benefit society. The surplus profits from the wind turbine business are donated to a community fund, the Bright Green Community Trust, for local 'green' projects, amounting to over £20,000 each year.

THE DIRECTORS

The Board of Directors manages the community wind turbine business on behalf of the Members, supported by the Project Manager, Rachel Lee, who manages the operation of the wind turbine on a day-by-day basis.

There are some 180 Members of the HoTTWind@Longley commnunity benefity society, who have shares in the community wind turbine business and are entitled to vote a the annual general meetings - one vote per member regardless of share value. Some 80% of these Members are local residents of the Holme Valley. The Members receive annual interest payments on their investment shares.
